In the latest chapter of “Celebrities Drink What Now?,” Glamour magazine is reporting that Kourtney Kardashian starts her day with a teaspoon of melted ghee.
Ghee, as any Indian food aficionado can tell you, is basically butter. It’s butter that has had the milk solids removed so it lasts longer, which means it’s the fat from butter.
Yep. Kourtney is doing butter-fat shooters first thing every morning.
Kourtney swears by ghee and coconut oil, saying they’re healthy fats, “meaning the fatty acids are absorbed directly into the liver and burnt as energy.”
Since Kourt isn’t a nutritionist, it’s worth getting a second opinion before you start chugging melted butter fat before breakfast. Glamour asked registered dietician Karen Ansel to weigh in on ghee, and she says it’s not particularly nutritious; it’s essentially just saturated fat. "Adding ghee to your diet is basically like adding butter to your diet," says Ansel.
While I am a big fan of butter, I think I’ll stick to putting it on toast instead of using it as a beverage. For my morning drink, coffee always wins the day.
