ICYMI, there's a war against Christmas and nowhere is it fiercer than a Minnesota school that dared to include a Muslim hymn in its annual holiday concert. The rest of the program was dedicated to Christmas carols and Hanukkah songs, but many parents are up in arms that a lone Muslim song was included in the program.
The uproar began when one parent posted the lyrics of the song on Facebook. One angry commenter said that "No child should be forced to sing a song about the Muslims and the religion of hatred." (All children were given the choice to opt out of singing the songs but they probably didn't because they aren't assholes.)
In case anyone needs a refresher, the first amendment's protection from established religion can be enacted two ways in public schools. Either religion must be entirely removed from schools or all religions must be taught and included. If you want God to remain in schools, you must also accept that all representations of god will be there –– not just the one you believe in. That's called religious freedom, and I hear Christians are pretty fond of it.
Of course, the "War on Christmas" crew has a crystal clear agenda that has nothing to do with freedom and everything to do with xenophobia. If there's anything that doesn't belong in schools, it's that.
