For Your Thursday Weeping Pleasure: This Dad Coming Home From Afghanistan

I live about 20 minutes from a major military base. Because of this, some of my very best friends are in the Navy (or wives of men in the Navy.) Also because of this, I know being in the military is not the most awesome thing all the time. I mean, you get to fly planes and stuff (if you're a pilot) but otherwise it's just a lot of work and a lot of time away from your family. Babies are born. People die. Birthdays and anniversaries and Christmas all happen, and our military folks miss it all.

I'm a peace-loving person, but I'm also a realist. I know that our military is needed. And, as the daughter of Vietnam veteran Thomas Hunseder and granddaughter of Captain Leonard E. Guiliani (Ret. Navy), I know how hard it is to be away from the people you love. Especially when they are in potential danger. Especially at the holidays.

Shoutout to the Sacramento Kings for making me cry.

Wednesday night, these two blindfolded cuties thought they had to search for the King's mascot, Slamson the Lion, but when they took off their blindfolds, what they found was their dad, U.S. Army Sgt. Shawn Sullivan. Shawn hadn’t seen his family for 11 months as he was serving overseas.

If this doesn't make you weep at least a little, well, you might want to get that checked out.

Just a little Thursday joy for you. Pass it on.
