#RavsWriters: Kristi Pahr — Mother, Writer, Goat Herder

1. Who are you?

Kristi Pahr.

2. Tell us about your family, or your cats, or your elaborate paper napkin collection.

I have two sons (4 and 1), one husband (40), two dogs, 3 goats, 11 pigs, 3 chickens, and a cat. We tried homesteading, but then we got old and my joints are too achey for milking a goat, so now I just look at them and smile. I also steadfastly condone the use of the Oxford comma. My hair is completely gray, yes, it's natural and no, there's nothing wrong with me.

3. When did you start writing? Why?

I've always written, but didn't consider myself a writer until very recently. I never thought I was good enough to be published, and assumed I wasn't interesting enough for people to actually give a shit about what I had to say. When I turned 39, I realized that time actually was passing and I needed to figure out what made me happy, and just do it. So I did. And here I am. I tell people I'm a writer when they ask, and I only feel a little bit like a fraud instead of all the way like a fraud.

4. What do you like to do when you're not doing the things you have to do?

I like music, and roadtrips, and books, and mountains. I like to wade in creeks and walk on the beach. I like to sing really loud with the windows down. I've tried several times over the course of my life to develop hobbies that were actually useful or productive, like knitting or gardening or sewing, but I'm also incredibly lazy.

5. What music do you love? (Barry Manilow is an acceptable answer.)

I love the Grateful Dead. I love the blues. Jack White makes me go fangirl. Bach and John Coltrane, Sublime, TOOL, Marvin Gaye, Otis Redding. And I really like the Lumineers.
