In today's video, produced in partnership with the Equal Payback Project and the National Women's Law Center, Silverman visits a doctor seeking gender reassignment surgery. Why? "In the grand scheme of things, it's way less expensive than the money I'll lose having a pussy. Plus I'll finally be able to pee on walls." Too real, Sarah. Too real.
She also drops some staggering numbers that, even though we've heard them before, still sting: Women miss out on an average of $11,000 annually thanks to the wage gap—which amounts to a whopping $500,000 over the course of their careers. Or, as Sarah puts it, women pay a $500,000 "vagina tax."
This video is to urge Americans to donate to the Equal Payback Project, which seeks to raise $29,811,746,430,000—the money owed to every working woman.
Yeah. Read that again. All those digits? Not the result of a typo.
If the project falls short of this nearly $30 trillion goal, all donations will go to the National Women's Law Center, which fights for legislation that betters the pay and lives of women in the workforce. Sarah reassures us that they “fight to help women get the money they deserve" and assures us that “they’re very good at what they do—you know, for a bunch of girls.”
Though we know you're all thinking this, we'll say it anyway: As noble as this project is, it sucks that it even has to exist. But hey—this video alone has been live for mere hours and already has several thousand views.
