Here’s a wondrous blast from the past making the rounds online: A 1995 Microsoft Windows Guide starring none other than 1990s comedy power duo, Jennifer Aniston and Matthew Perry. Apparently they found time in their busy Friends schedule to dip their toes into desktop product placement.
Set up: The pair visits Microsoft HQ to discuss starring in “the world’s first cyber sitcom” (wink wink, they’re already in the world’s first cyber sitcom). But wouldn’t you know it, Bill is out at the moment, and instead they end up getting a thorough tutorial from Gate’s “loyal assistant” in the founder’s very office.
Matthew Perry weirdly heaps praise on Bill Gates at every turn (“This is Bill Gate's computer! That’s like using Wayne Gretsky’s hockey stick!”), and Jennifer Aniston dons her 90s-rific maroon outfit while inserting plenty of sassy commentary. And don’t worry, Aniston is in fact sporting “The Rachel” in all its pre-Brad Pitt glory.
Mockable as this video is, we recognize it’s a tall order to make a computer tutorial with even a semblance of entertainment value, so here’s two neo-grunge thumbs up for this strange, and strangely enthralling, creation.
