"I'm a writer, and I've been working on this book of interviews with queer people in the Bay Area who collect strange items. The craziest thing is how ingrained collecting is into the subconscious and the psyche –– it almost seems genetic. I have someone who has collected over 1,000 bread tags, and someone who has collected their own belly button lint. I used to work for a farm in Santa Cruz that was mostly run by queer people, and I noticed a trend amongst my co-workers. I'm not a collector, and I don't identify as queer. I want to have nothing in general. So everything that is not like me is generally fascinating."
