Kelly Hennig: Student

Spotted in: Downtown SF

Occupation: Student

What are you up to today?

I was actually just going to go grocery shopping. Finally getting out of the house today—it's been a relaxing Sunday.

What's your occupation?

I'm a student and I work for an online fashion consignment startup called Threadflip. They're like a Buffalo Exchange—where you can buy, sell, trade.

What drew you to that job?

I had a friend who was looking for people to fill positions, and I needed a job. I'm not really into fashion, that's not what I go to school for.

What are you studying?

I'm studying editing for motion pictures at the Academy of Art. I like the program, it's good—I'm just really looking forward to finishing up and getting out there.

Who are your major inspirations film-wise?

I'd say Terry Gilliam. I like the atmosphere he creates—I like the decrepit sort of feel. I love the set designs.

What would be your ideal thing to do once you graduate?

I want to get a job! [laughs] I'm just taking it one step at a time here, you know? I'm not dreaming too big too quickly—I'm trying to be realistic.

Any recent obsessions, things that have caught your attention?

I'd say FKA Twigs. I really like her personal style.

Have you gotten any good advice?

Hmm, I don't know! I could use some! [laughs]

How would you describe your personal style?

Well, I don't know, I just see something that I like and grab it. I don't really know how to describe it. I do follow trends, so I'm definitely influenced by that.

What's a challenge you've overcome recently?

I guess trying to believe more in myself. Just being more confident.

I wanted to ask you about what you're wearing because it's a cute combo!

Actually, and I didn't realize this before now, I've got a lot of things from Zara—the shoes, leggings and top are actually all from Zara. The jacket is just from H & M. I have no idea where the bag is from, I got it for Christmas from my stepmom. The sunglasses are from Nordstrom—20 bucks!

Where have been your favorite places in the area to hang out and enjoy the day?

I love going up the bay. I love to ride over the Golden Gate Bridge and into Marin. It's not like any city I ever grew up around—where you have such beautiful outdoor activities. It's like a city, but then you go to each different neighborhood and it's a completely different world.
