Spotted: Ferry Building, SF
What are you up to today?
I needed some air — I'm at work today, so I'm just walking around.
What is your occupation?
I work in HR at Autodesk — a software company. They do all the AutoCAD design format stuff.
What do you like most about what you do?
What I wanted most in a job was the ability to interact with people all the time, and that's what I do! I also get to speak French because I work with the bilingual office in Montreal, so I get to practice my French all the time.
What are your favorite things to do outside of work?
Definitely lots of active things. I love to rock climb, I surf, I run, I also like perusing fashion blogs. I like to be super active since I'm mostly inside all day.
What's a favorite rock climbing place that you've discovered lately?
Mostly I do indoor, but when I can get outdoors, then I love going to Goat Rock which is right in this area. It's in Sonoma County, up along the coast. It's just beautiful — you've got a view of the ocean, and this amazing bouldering.
What's something that's caught your attention recently?
I was actually looking around in the store, and I've been really into home decor lately because I've been trying to cultivate my own home sort of. There's this really cool book — I think it's called The New Bohemian — and it's got all these examples inside of interiors where people have a mix of modern and bohemian. Like the classic butterfly chairs, or something like that, and cool rugs. I'm always on the lookout for cool rugs — that's my thing right now! Because I have an awful carpet! I just want to get rid of it entirely.
What's been a recent inspiration for you?
I just watched the movie Meru. It's a documentary of three guys who decided to climb Mt. Meru, which has never been summited ever before. They did it by ice picking and rock climbing in the most incredible conditions — good, bad, snowing, avalanches, frostbitten. And they did it just a year ago! They summited it! And it made me think about, not just something incredible that you want to do, but what is that passion that will lead you to incredible things? It made me think about that relationship between your passion and what can become your life.
And also, I just wanted to ask your outfit — the first thing I saw were these beautiful yellow shoes!
These are Clarks!
They are?
You would have never known! Because they're like, future-y looking. But they're the most comfortable. I can't tell you how many times I've run to catch Muni in these — and I've made it every single time! They're so comfortable! I got them on sale — I think they're like originally $150, but I got them for like $112 or something. And they're just like the comfiest wedge shoes ever.
I love the pattern of your shift dress and this necklace!
I just bought these four little beads — I was in Taiwan for a while. I passed by a bead store and I just was like, Oh, I like these together. So I put them on a chain. It's funny though — it's kind of ironic — I bought it in Taiwan, and in China the number four is bad luck. So I thought, Oh, maybe I shouldn't have four beads on here, maybe I should downgrade it to three or something, I don't have five. But I just kept it at four because I like all of them!
The mirrored sunglasses are nice too!
These are Sunski. They're this newish sunglass company and they're based on vintage Danish sunglasses, I think? Now they're really popular for people who do outdoor sports because they're not totally, like, Oakley crazy sporty sunglasses; they're still a little stylish.
The bag's really cute too.
Oh yeah, this is a vintage Burberry bag that I inherited from a great aunt. She was like, "I don't use this any more." I was like, "OK, I'll take it, thanks!"
