I am already mourning the loss of The Toast. I am of that weird and wacky demographic for which The Toast was everything I've ever wanted an online publication to be — AND NOW IT IS LEAVING ME.
I've even stooped to avoiding the site because I want the archive to be full of new discoveries for when I go spelunking around it, but I can't resist a good peek every coupla days.
“Women Who I Guess Are Dating Peacocks In Western Art History” was the result of one such moment of weakness. It's so good.
The Toast is perfect and nothing gold can stay, or whatever.

Thus opens “The Man in the Woods,” a true-crime longread with a bigger question to ask than simply “whodunit?” (as a way of explanation, my dad was a Law and Order junkie long before SVU marathons were a thing, so I have a vague attraction to true-crime stuff, cheesy as it is).
This piece from California Sunday absolutely glued me to my computer chair. Not only is it a very tenderly told story, it does a great job of painting a realistic picture of the tangled web of services — and their accompanying loopholes — that families go through when caring for a loved one with mental illness.

My best friend is notoriously out-of-the-loop when it comes to Internet phenomena. She hadn't seen the goddamn Sail Cat. It's really not too bad a problem to have, seeing as it lets me revisit Internet classics on a regular basis.
This week, it came to my attention that she had yet to see this timeless masterpiece. Which, of course, meant that I spent the rest of this week sharing the video with absolutely everyone I know and making them watch it three times to prove that it actually does get even funnier.
