Read/Watch/Listen To This: We Don't Even Mention The Election ONCE Here Edition

The premise is pretty simple: We each give you one thing to watch, one thing to listen to, and one thing to read over the weekend.

Stress-free Interneting is of utmost importance this week.

We've got you covered.

Here's a handful of carefully curated gems to which to read, watch, and listen:

I am already mourning the loss of The Toast. I am of that weird and wacky demographic for which The Toast was everything I've ever wanted an online publication to be — AND NOW IT IS LEAVING ME.

I've even stooped to avoiding the site because I want the archive to be full of new discoveries for when I go spelunking around it, but I can't resist a good peek every coupla days.

Women Who I Guess Are Dating Peacocks In Western Art History” was the result of one such moment of weakness. It's so good.

The Toast is perfect and nothing gold can stay, or whatever.

All I really want you to read is this sentence right here:

“Look up: Their branches brawl for space with Douglas firs and grand firs, and the canopy of green nearly blots out the sun.”

Isn't that so gorgeous?

Thus opens “The Man in the Woods,” a true-crime longread with a bigger question to ask than simply “whodunit?” (as a way of explanation, my dad was a Law and Order junkie long before SVU marathons were a thing, so I have a vague attraction to true-crime stuff, cheesy as it is).

This piece from California Sunday absolutely glued me to my computer chair. Not only is it a very tenderly told story, it does a great job of painting a realistic picture of the tangled web of services — and their accompanying loopholes — that families go through when caring for a loved one with mental illness.

My best friend is notoriously out-of-the-loop when it comes to Internet phenomena. She hadn't seen the goddamn Sail Cat. It's really not too bad a problem to have, seeing as it lets me revisit Internet classics on a regular basis.

This week, it came to my attention that she had yet to see this timeless masterpiece. Which, of course, meant that I spent the rest of this week sharing the video with absolutely everyone I know and making them watch it three times to prove that it actually does get even funnier.

Actually, my Watch is one that Ravishly shared on Facebook this week!

Experimental string duo Chargaux did a video feature for Refinery29 this week, and it's so, so good.

A little ashamed to say I had never heard of Chargaux, but I would like to hear much, much more of them.

I can't get Miya Folick's “Oceans” out of my head. It's brooding and airy all at once, perfect for summer sulking.

Shoutout to Spotify Discover playlists for knowing my taste better than I do.

My Listen for this week is “Third Wall” from Australia's Terry, which is a swirling trip into another dimension.

I am just so goddamn blessed to do what I do for a living. Like, part of my job is just sitting and listening to new music from awesome bands from all over the world. Pinch me, Jenni.
