It's a sad day for those who think hoverboards a la Back to the Future are the coolest thing ever (which is to say, everyone on planet Earth. I mean...hoverboards!) Video clips that purported to promote "real" hoverboard technology racked up millions of hits and countless squeals of geeky excitement before being unveiled as a big cruel hoax by Funny or Die. Sigh.
That said, props to the comedy site for nailing its hoax, by 1) naming the new technology HUVr, a pretentious name to the point of sounding real, 2) utilizing some pretty dang impressive special effects, and 3) using Moby (alongside Christopher Lloyd and Tony Hawk) as a pitch person. Because for some weird reason, it makes perfect sense that if hoverboards did exist (sigh again), Moby would totally be all over that.
